During a migration, it’s natural to focus on one goal: getting the integrations successfully onto SAP Integration Suite. But once they’re there, someone still has to manage them: Changes need to be tracked. Releases need to be tested. Transports need to be controlled. Documentation needs to stay current. And as the landscape grows, doing all of that manually becomes harder.
That’s when a realisation tends to appear:
“We planned how to get to Integration Suite. We didn’t plan how to manage it once we got there.”
A PI/PO migration is a good opportunity to think beyond go-live and decide how the new integration landscape should actually be operated. Because getting to Integration Suite and being in control of Integration Suite are two different things.
What does your operating model look like after the migration is finished? Who tests a change before it goes to production, and who can prove it was tested? Where does the documentation live, and does it update itself or does someone have to remember?
If you don’t have good answers yet, that’s normal. Most teams plan the move and figure out the operating model as they go. But it’s worth deciding on purpose rather than by accident.
