How much will your SAP PI/PO migration really cost?

We have built three free tools. The first one gives you a quick answer, and the other two help you plan the whole project.

Most of us have run SAP’s Migration Assessment and then asked: “What does this actually mean for our migration project, and how do we break it down?”

SAP’s assessment gives you a lot of useful data. But data isn’t a plan. You still have to work out how much effort it really is, how long it will take, what it will cost, and how to explain all of that to the people who approve the budget.

So we built three free tools. The first one gives you a quick answer, and the other two help you plan the whole project.

Tool 1: The quick business case calculator

If you just need a fast answer to “Is Figaf worth it for us?”, start with the Business Case calculator.

You enter a few numbers:

  • How many objects you’re migrating
  • How many consultants are on the project
  • Your cost per consultant hour
  • Hours per object for preparation, migration, transport and testing

The calculator then shows you:

  • Break-even: how many hours Figaf needs to save per object to pay for itself
  • Net savings after license costs
  • How many weeks sooner you’ll finish
  • How many consultant hours you free up

In our mid-size example (250 objects, 3 consultants, €80/hour), Figaf only needs to save 2.1 hours per object to break even. The example assumes 6 hours, which works out to roughly €77,000 saved and the project delivered 15.6 weeks sooner.

The figures are example assumptions. Replace them with your own, and you have a first version of the business case in a few minutes.

Tool 2: The Migration Assessment and Planner

When you need more than a quick estimate, use the Migration Assessment tools. This is the tool Daniel walks through in the video below.

The tool comes in two versions, depending on what data you have.

Version 1: Only the SAP evaluation report (no Figaf needed)

Upload the Excel file from SAP’s Migration Evaluation (evaluation_run_results_*.xlsx). You’ll see:

  • How your interfaces break down by category
  • SAP’s effort estimates and the expected duration
  • What we at Figaf consider a realistic estimate based on the same data

You can drill into the high-complexity interfaces to see what’s behind them. Often the picture changes. As Daniel shows in the video, a B2B scenario that SAP estimates at 7 days may take about 1 day with Figaf.

This version gives you an indicative estimate, and it works without installing anything.

Version 2: SAP report + Figaf data, for real project planning

If you have Figaf installed, you can also export a Migration Overview from Figaf and combine it with the SAP report. That gives you a much more detailed picture:

  • Every interface with both SAP’s estimate and Figaf’s estimate, side by side
  • Which interfaces SAP’s own tool can auto-migrate at no extra cost. Figaf’s migration tool only needs to handle the rest.
  • One-time activities shown separately. You only need to learn how a new adapter works once, so building your first SFTP receiver shouldn’t add effort to every interface that uses SFTP.
  • Estimated Figaf license costs, for both the Migration tool and the DevOps Suite
  • A project plan: enter the number of consultants and days, and the tool splits your interfaces into migration waves

You can then export the waves, import them as tags in Figaf, and see in Figaf’s migration overview which objects belong to wave 1, wave 2 and so on. That way the plan carries straight into the actual migration work.

There’s also an Excel export, so you can share the plan with stakeholders who don’t want to open another tool.

Tip: Import our Tagging Rules for Migration into Figaf before you generate the assessment. They cover the most common integration patterns and give you a more complete and accurate picture of your landscape.

Tool 3: The B2B migration calculator

If you are running B2B, we also have a B2B migration calculator.

Answer nine questions about your SAP PI/PO B2B landscape, and it works out your go-live date day by day, skipping weekends and public holidays. You then see your classic plan next to the Figaf route on one timeline, plus a cost comparison at your own developer rate, Figaf costs included.

Your data stays with you

Both assessment tools run in your browser. No data is sent to Figaf.

The tools are also open source. You’ll find the code on GitHub, where you can clone it, change it to fit your own scenarios, or send us a pull request.
