SAP Integration: 2025 Trends & How to Prepare for 2026

If you missed the recent webinar hosted by the team at Figaf, don’t worry as we’ve got you covered. The session brought together industry experts Daniel Graversen, Kishore Enumula, and Emil Jessen to discuss the current state of SAP integration, the highs and lows of 2025, and critical strategies for navigating the migration challenges ahead in 2026.

You can see it here.

Here is a breakdown of the key takeaways.

The State of SAP Integration in 2025

The SAP Integration Suite has matured significantly, but not without its growing pains.

  • AI is Here (Sort of): 2025 was the year “real” AI features were delivered. While AI is great for documentation or generating Groovy/XSLT code snippets, the panel noted that for deep integration architecture, it’s still more of a helper than a builder. Security remains a concern for enterprise use cases.
  • The “Edge” & Pipeline Concept: A hot topic was the Pipeline Concept and Edge Integration. While crucial for reliable messaging (especially in high-volume retail), the panel described it as feeling like a “technical workaround” rather than a native platform feature. It adds complexity—reminiscent of old PI orchestration challenges—but is currently the necessary path for robust retry handling.
  • Adapter Overload: SAP delivered a ton of new adapters this year (e.g., Google adapters). Great if you need them, but noise if you don’t.

The B2B & TPM Turnaround

For years, the B2B solution in the Integration Suite received criticism for being “80% ready.” The good news? It is now a working, technically viable solution.

However, complexity remains the enemy of scale:

  • Management Headaches: Migrating 20 partners is fine, but managing 2,000+ agreements is a nightmare without proper governance tools.
  • The “Standard” vs. “Community” Split: A puzzling discovery for many is that you often have to choose between SAP’s standard content and community content—they can be mutually exclusive.
  • OFTP Issues: The OFTP adapter (critical for the automotive industry) was highlighted as a “sore thumb” that still needs work.

Migration Strategy: Don’t Wait for the “Magic Button”

With the clock ticking on SAP PI/PO support (approx. 750 days left as mentioned in the session), the message was clear: Start now.

  • As-Is vs. Redesign: There is an ongoing debate between doing a direct “lift and shift” versus a full modernization. The Figaf team argues that for massive landscapes (e.g., 5,000 interfaces), you cannot modernize everything at once. Sometimes, you have to “dance with the one who brought you” and migrate as-is first to ensure stability.
  • Testing is Non-Negotiable: You cannot safely migrate without robust testing. The ability to record test cases in PI and execute them in the Integration Suite is vital to ensure business continuity.

How Figaf Fits In

The webinar showcased how Figaf aims to be the “preferred add-on” for the Integration Suite, filling the gaps left by standard SAP tools:

  • Governance & DevOps: Moving beyond manual file transports to a fully governed DevOps process.
  • B2B Management: An overlay that simplifies the creation and management of thousands of trading partner agreements.
  • Migration Tools: capabilities to automate the migration assessment and execution, making the “as-is” transition faster and safer.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we move into 2026, the focus must shift from “exploring” to “executing.”

  • Action Item: If you haven’t started your migration Proof of Concept (PoC), you are behind.
  • Clean Up: Use this time to clean up naming conventions and streamline processes.
  • Get Help: Don’t rely solely on manual efforts. Tools that offer visibility and automation are essential for complex migrations.

Final Thought: As Emil candidly put it, “There is no magic button.” Migration is hard work, but with the right tools and a head start, it is manageable.
